St Andrews Swim Club and Coopswim Swim program are preparing for a fun filled summer with exciting new programs and a new head coach! We wish a former head coach Kurt Wolhrab the best of luck in his future endeavors. He graduates with a Masters of Business from St Andrews University this spring. Continuing with our highly talented string of coaches we now welcome Casey Cooper.
Head Coach Casey Cooper will be starting this summer. She has swam competitively for over 15 years. She lettered all 4 years of high school at Pinecrest High School where she was team captain for her Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. She also swam for North Carolina State University. She has taught swim lessons for over 15 years and Coached for over 10. She has experience with both children who are scared of water and Children with Disabilities.
Our Program President Taylor Cooper will again be offering Mommy and Me classes as well as helping out with the summer swim team program.
Taylor has been teaching and coaching swimming for over 40 years. He has experience will all swimmers from babies to adults as well as those with special needs.
Taylor has been on the North Carolina open water committee for the past 10 years and he was on USA Open water development committee. He also was the NC Senior Swimming Chair for 2 years and before moving to NC he was the FL Senior Swimming chair for 2 year as well. During his personal swimming career her was an 8 time National Qualifier and both High School and College All-American.
He has coached numerous Olympic Medallist, America Records holder, college all-Americans, High school all-Americans and is currently the Head Coach of St Andrews University. Taylor has been teaching and coaching swimming for over 40 years. He has experience will all swimmers from babies to adults as well as those with special needs.
Coopswim Swim School had its first successful Community Outreach Free lesson Feb 23rd.
The St Andrews University as well as SASC Swimmers were on hand to help and give a demonstration of what all that hard work would look like eventually. We look forward to continuing to have more in the future. This kicked off the first session of spring lessons and pre-summer lessons.
We have also added a few new programs to help better serve our community:
Summer League High School Group for High School aged swimmers who want to see what competitive swimming is all about and to get ready or stay in shape for high school season.
Summer League Novice for those who want to learn how to be on a swim team and to learn and develop the four basic strokes. Perfect for those interested in getting started in year round swimming.
Must be able to swim unassisted, no fear of the water. Also will be able to compete in Developmental, “Just for Fun” swim meets will be held on Tuesday evening with other summer league teams.
Team Prep USA Flex Swim for kids ages 8-18 who want to learn how to be on a swim team and to learn the four basic strokes. Must be able to swim unassisted, no fear of the water. Will also eligible for the usa swimming flex program and be able to compete in 1-2 sanctioned meet, and participate in summer league meets. This is a step up from summer league and for those who want to try out the year round USA swimming.
Water Aerobics for ages 12 and up for those who want a very low impact exercise. Must be able to get to the side to the pool and in and out using a ladder. Great for adults and senior citizens.
